Epigrafía
A lo largo del retablo fingido se colocaron diversas leyendas que hacen referencia al patrocinio del obispo Acosta, al año de realización (1557) y a frases y salmos extraídos generalmente de la Biblia Vulgata -relacionados con el sacrificio de Cristo o la esperanza de la Resurrección-, muchos de los cuales se recitaban en Semana Santa.
